Although Learning Designs and Technologies is not my major, enrolling in these courses as my electives was a deliberate decision. I have always had a deep interest in the topic of technological design, and all that’s encompassed within. Since as long as I can remember, I've always had a passion for education. Whether creating presentations, flyers, or other visual materials within my scope, whether personal (for others) or professional, I've always had a strong interest for design, presentation and the mindfulness to consider how that design would be perceived by the audience. This program offers an opportunity to formalize my skills, gain structured guidance, and delve into the underlying principles that go into effective learning design. With these things in mind, I have set three goals to guide my progress through the course: a short-term goal to completed by the end of this course, a medium-term goal that can be achieved by the end of the program and a long-term goal that can be achieved at the end of the program. These goals are intended to guide my growth and progress as a learning design practitioner and prepare me for future opportunities within this field.
Short-Term Goal: Develop a Professional Blogsite by the end
of the Course
By the end of this course, my short-term goal is to establish
a professional blogsite that will serve as my portfolio of my work throughout
this course. While I have always been passionate about education, design, and
the presentation of ideas, my experience has been strictly quite formal up
until this point - creating flyers, presentations and any other media materials
for both personal (for others) and professional purposes. I envision this
blogsite as a platform to formalize and showcase any skills learned thus far.
This will not only allow me to document my learning and growth throughout the
program, but it will also provide a platform where I am able to share learned
information, insights and reflections on learning design concepts. This
blogsite, I hope, will serve as a valuable asset in my future academic career,
as well as in my professional portfolio to reference when applying to future
jobs.
Medium-Term Goal: Gain Proficiency in
Learning Design Software by the Mid-Point of the Program
By mid-point of the program, my
medium-term goal is to navigate, design and become proficient in various
learning design software and tools. As it stands now, I have absolutely no
prior formal experience in this field, yet I recognize that mastering these
tools is essential to becoming an effective learning designer. As I work
towards my graduate degree in Global Education and my certification in Learning
Design and Technologies, I aim to build a stronger foundation in the
technological aspects of the field, such as eLearning platforms and multimedia
design software. Achieving this goal will enable me to create more creative and
interactive learning experiences that will either cater to diverse audiences or
are geared towards the individual. These skills will also give me a clearer
understanding of what a career in learning design entails, allowing me to
explore different possibilities and align my future career path with my
interests and strengths.
Long Term Goal: Build a Professional
Network and Secure Contract Positions by the End of the Program
Ultimately, by the end of my program I
would like to be fully immersed in the field of learning design and technology.
I aim to establish a professional network of peers and mentors within the
field. Building these connections will provide opportunities for collaboration,
idea exchange, and support. I also plan to expand my pedagogical strategies by
accommodating diverse learning needs propelled by data-driven design, allowing
me to work on diverse projects and apply my skills in a multitude of differing
educational settings. This goal aligns with my desire to continuously learn,
grow, innovate and be transformed by new information learned, contributing to
the field of education by designing effective and inclusive learning
experiences.
These goals reflect my commitment to
growth, learning and making a meaningful impact in the field of education. By
achieving these objectives, I will be prepared to apply my knowledge and skills
within the field of learning design.
